National Sea Freight Manager (m/f/d)

Responsibilities

General Responsibilities:

  • Drive customer focus, through high quality service to local and network customers, with quick professional and polite communication
  • Implement and align global FCL and LCL procurement and product strategies to Local  sea freight operations in order to meet strategic goals of Röhlig (Growth, GP, EBT for sea freight import & export business)
  • Meet budgets for sea freight business & trade lane development (Growth, GP, EBT for sea freight import & export business)
  • Develop innovative and profitable products and meet budgets for product development
  • End-to-end responsibility for sea freight process efficiency & quality
  • Maintain & improve GP margin according to Business Unit strategic objectives

Management of the sea freight business unit of the country subsidiary in line with the global sea freight strategy:

  • Maintain & improve GP margin according to Business Unit strategic objectives
  • Perform active budget planning and steering of budget achievement
  • Operate the sea freight department, to ensure our global GBOs are met, with focus on invoicing on time, correct invoicing, auto rating, pre-alerts on time and correct WIPs and accruals
  • Bundle local cargo volumes in cooperation with the regional Ocean Service Center (OSC), and negotiate rates in cooperation with the OSC
  • Ensure compliance with the relevant regulations and standards (e.g. Customs, Dangerous goods, FMC, AMS filing, Code of Conduct, FCPA etc.) within the sea freight departments
  • Ensure timely delivery of the monthly sea freight reporting
  • Support centralized rate tool Flex. Ensure staff are trained and qualified on Flex, INTTRA, operation software with direct EDI links to NVOCCs as well as carriers

Manage product development:

  • Analysis of LCL consolidations, end to end, cost to co-load versus cost to load own consolidation
  • Develop business case (selling prices, volumes, GP impact), perform market testing
  • Align with sales in order to achieve budget for the business unit Sea
  • Develop product branding, run advertising and promotion campaign
  • Track and analyze sales figures, review/ adjust product offerings, manage product life cycle

Manage local sea freight procurement:

  • Comply to pre-defined global carrier portfolio, while benchmarking such carriers up against local available rates in coordination with OSCs
  • Support local sales in terms of any sea freight related pricing
  • Assist operation in solving carrier related issues when necessary
  • Develop and maintain relationship with Platinum, Gold and Silver carriers at local level
  • Allocate and perform space management for all P/G/S customers
  • Be involved in sales to develop and capture opportunities by prioritizing winning business over carrier selection, by targeting Silver and above customers
  • Conduct customer visits when necesary
  • Participate in internal communication regarding local sea freight market developments and updates of sea freight rates.
  • Be the point of contact for the escalation of sea freight issues for the country subsidiary

 

Skills required

  • Minimum 8 years of sea freight forwarding experience, whereof 2 years must be managing a team of 3 staff or more
  • P&L experience, plus familiar with various reporting KPIs
  • Strong software proficiency and digital affinity, with a readiness to learn and apply functional expertise in a complex, evolving environment

  • Entrepreneurial mindset, able to identify opportunities, think strategically, negotiate effectively, and maintain a customer- and cost-focused approach

  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, including team building, conflict resolution, goal setting, and the ability to engage and inspire diverse individuals
